I’m an enthusiast photographer living in Perth, Western Australia. I have an interest in photography going back as far as I can remember.

My photographic interests are broad; although if pressed, portraiture and landscapes are probably first among equals. My favourite photographers include Sebastião Salgado, Elliott Erwitt, Ansel Adams, Yousuf Karsh, W. Eugene Smith, and Australians Max Dupain and David Moore.

Like many of my generation, my first photographs were made with a box Brownie, until the family acquired a Mamiya SLR. My own cameras have included Nikon and Olympus in the film era. I now now use a Nikon Z9 and Z6 II, and am thinking of selling my beloved D850.

I am a fervent believer that photographs are made in the camera. That said, as I always shoot raw on my Nikons and even my iPhone, I require an image processing package, which of late has been Adobe’s Lightroom. I also have (but rarely use) Affinity Photo, Adobe Photoshop and DxO PhotoLab. In the past I have used Phase One's Capture One Pro, but disappointment with the product and the company’s direction have led me to reluctantly cease using it.

As much as I like posting images to this and other sites, I love producing a printed image. The results from my Epson P800 are stunning, and I get a real buzz from framing these prints - as well as producing photo books on special occasions.

As friends and family will testify, I’m a compulsive educator. I enjoyed teaching an evening course in digital photography at the Erindale Community Education Program in Canberra in 2012 and 2013.

My blog (which is updated less often than it should be) is called Miscellaneous thoughts of a photographer.

I’m privileged to be a life member of Canberra's Southside Camera Club, and was Club President in 2010-11. (If you’re in Canberra and are looking for a friendly photography club, feel free to drop in!)

The images on my Folio page are some of my better images. As I develop this site, I will add to my folio - and so I hope you will continue to visit!
